Imus Meltdown
The Imus character, aging and insular, tries to affect hip by using an "insider'' term for black hair _ nappy _ and a rap culture description for women _ ho's. Instead, he's revealed to be just another absurdly backward celebrity trying to appear vibrant and cool.
Rutgers' shining accomplishment remains. The movie's denoument: A smart broadcaster invites the Rutgers team and its coach on their show. They are intelligent and gracious, exposing Imus for the outdated boor that he is.
Playing Don Imus? Mel Gibson, of course.

Those words don't make him vibrant and cool. If he thought that, he is so out of the loop. And with every minute that goes by he is assuredly regretting those three ignorant words that will be forever associated with him.
His own forum (media) is tearing him apart for this. No matter how much he apologizes, no matter how many programs he's on, it's not going to matter. How sad. I don't believe this is the way to go about it.
I feel badly for those young girls on the basketball team. There mothers and fathers are clucking their tongues and saying "see, we told you so", and now they feel the sting of this man's stupidity and believe yet another generation is being vicitmized.
The girls on the basketball team are young and resilient. They will bounce back and move on. I don't think the same will be said of Don Imus. I'm sure God will forgive him, but humankind won't be so merciful.
